In the Shorts of Three

Not in chronological order. ;) _ On deciding to work on BfD, I found the second book and took it to work with me yesterday. I was chatting with Navpreet (my adopted daughter) about it casually during lunch break, and she asked to look at it. When she started to read it, she got so caught up she lost track of where she was. One - WHOOPS. Two - YAY! _ For the last two days, I've worn my OYAN t-shirt to work. It's amusing walking down the street and watching people read it. So were my colleagues at work - and liked it. (Yes, Mr. S., I'm attempting to infiltrate the whole of Britain with OYAN. Slowly. :P) This morning, carrying four heavy bags and hurrying towards work, I passed a guy who read it out loud as I walked past him. "My villain can beat up your villain?" And started laughing. I grinned. "Yep! And no arguing about it!" That was funny. _ After almost two years of waiting (cause I even got my close friends' names out of h...

Comprehendio!

Finally! I figured out why I'm so busy online! And...it makes me happy cause I've figured it out. Are you curious? Now I can manoeuvre stuff to make time, so I don't feel so bad about never being on Holy Worlds, OYAN or the Rebelution. Here's a comprehensive list of my online activities - social networking, etc. Walk With Us - my personal blog Poema - my poetry overspill blog Snapshots - a collaborative story that isn't going very well at present, on a girl with a broken family that suffers with abuse. In the Footsteps of Hymns - a blog on the meanings behind the dear, getting-forgotten old fashioned hymns. Rejuvenating the RAFA - my newest blog coming out on becoming a member of, growing into and starting recruitment for the Royal Air Force Association, and my ideas on how to get younger people involved. MademoiselleSJ - my Twitter handle Sian Garner-Jones - my profile on G+ Sian Garner-Jones on Facebook On Tumblr LilCorpJanie18 ...

An Interviewer's Insanity

So. I wrote this random little skit today in between calls. (Yes, I was dialling! Just scribbling at the points when the phone was ringing.) This is taken from the perspective of a snobbish receptionist (ie, briskly efficient that disposes of researchers as wastes of precious time) and an interviewer driven mad/crazy by no surveys, non-stop calling and rude refusals. R: Receptionist I: Interviewer M: Manager (Interviewer stops banging head off the desk, assumes a calm air, picks up the phone and dials.) R: (pleasantly) Hello, this is Denise Arrington-Smith, secretary to Lord Harry Poncenby of the Willoughy Estates Learning and Support School. Can I help you? I: Hello! My name is Emily Willis and I'm calling on behalf of the Sunday Times. Can I speak to Lord Poncenby please? R: (suspiciously) Oh, I'm sorry...what did you say your name was again? I: (politely cheerful) Emily Willis. R: And your company name? I: I'm calling on behalf on the Sunday Times. R: Is that where you...

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

As a child, my parents raised me minus Father Christmas, believing that a) it detracted from Christ being the centre of the celebration and instead focusing it on a man who gives presents, and b) that it teaches a child to trust in a falsehood and then later, when knowing the truth, realises they've spent their entire early years believing a fairy tale. A lie. How much trust - and faith - does that inspire? Our church therefore taught against Santa (Satan?) Claws - oops, Claus...and every year my twin brother, our friend Rebekah Morris and myself would sing as a trio a song, written off Buddy Davis's (from AiG) song, I Don't Believe in Evolution, by Rebekah's father, Adam, called, I Don't Believe in Father Christmas. Following this, my Mom would read out this to the assembled parents. Believe you me, my brother and I found the end part HIGHLY amusing. So - I give you an engineer's perspective on our dear Father Christmas...or rather, Father of the other side...

Quoting Flt Sgt Rowley

Here's a quote from my friend Scott Rowley's Facebook page, regarding my home town. How very true! *chuckle*: "Loves the way Walsall can promote itself, lol. Walsall The filthy streets, the unwashed masses, the charming local accent that makes us sound as though we were born retarded and have been drinking turpentine every day since then… These are the best aspects of Walsall. There’s a new art gallery, grey and shaped like a box. Clearly a great deal of thought went into making it look as appealing from the outside as it is enjoyable inside. And a new bus station. Cost a small fortune to build, looks absolutely revolting, has slowed down traffic for miles around because the entrance is tiny and buses have to queue past the exit to get into the entrance — so a traffic jam can last theoretically until the end of time. Best of all, they didn’t realise until after it was built that it wasn’t big enough for all the buses. The crowning glory of Walsall, though, is its people. T...

Spiel of Random Thoughties

A smile can change the world. At the very least, a person's day. When I dress to please Sian, guys watch and I smile and it's flirting all the way. When I dress to please the Lord Jesus Christ and Jane, then I smile and a guy is watching my face and smiles back - and it's completely innocent and pure. There's glory in that. When I smile dressed for Sian, girls and women aren't happy smiling back. And they...act different. When I smile dressed for Jesus, they smile back and it's lifting their faces and a smile into their eyes. I was watching with active interest the things around me earlier, and suddenly started laughing... God is so amazing! A year ago, I was so wrapped up in my pain I wasn't noticing anything, just breathing from day to day. All I can remember is darkness and facts...and the first time I noticed the glory of autumn leaves that year. When He started to pull me out of it and Jay and C'rissie were telling me to focus on other things and st...

Funny!

Me: The next time they offer for me to visit, can I? Mom: Why on earth are you asking me? You tell me what you're doing nowadays. Me: That's only, like, with work and cadets. I ask about the rest of it, cause I know how you flip out - and don't ask me for an example, cause I can't think of any. I just know you do. Mom: Like what? Me: I don't know. :P Mom: You're nineteen, you've been to America and Ireland. What do I fret about now? Me: Well, you won't let me come home at night on the bus. :D Mom: That's something else. Me: *dies laughing*

Today, Today, is a Most Important Day!

Image
Today was a nice day. I spent it trying to make a great impression on my bedroom. I partially succeeded. ;) Which is nice, because my bedroom and I don't get along very well, so learning how to deal with it and make the right kind of impression was good! Also, I learned the meaning of "when I became a man, I put away childish things." However, I photographed them before disposing of them. Here are a few. I photographed my favourite mother's ring (yes, she is my favourite mother, and it's my favourite ring of hers :P) and her engagement ring that I'm using as a purity ring for the present. I also created an American corner in my room! See if you can spot what you gave me! Papers going into frame in the near future. :) Then my sister came round and dropped off my niece while she went to fetch prescriptions from the chemist. After that, we went shopping. Mummy bought me three pairs of earrings!! They are so pre...

Lessons from Home!

As everyone knew, the anticipation of arrival at home was worse than the actual reliving. :P Here, I'm back home with the people I am deeply and intricately connected to with ties deeper than normal love, and God has enabled me to keep my eyes on one thing at a time. However, I wasn't expecting the fear to start again...or the Rebelution to cure it. My brother, Joseph (more commonly Jose) asked me to do a hundred and one things for him...as usual. Most I passed off as impractical. Which is, thankfully, true. Then he asked me to help him build five model battleships which he'd been saving until I came home, and he wants them built by the weekend. You've seen the models, right? Those plastic, fiddly, bitty thingies with glue and paint and stuff galore? I could probably cope with the glue and the paint. But not the tiny fiddly bits you breathe on, and they fly away. Especially with Jose. Besides, this would interfere with my nice little laid out schedule. ...

Weird Dreams

For the past four nights (excluding last night) at the Beals' house, I have had extremely weird dreams. The first was regarding an old friend and I - we were touring England, and a steam engine and another guy were involved. Not much more I want to recall. The next two I can't remember, but the fourth was so weird I made a point of trying to remember specific points and write it down. My Dream 09-07-11 There was this train station I was at...a train from America to the UK. It stopped in front of some big glass panels, white framed, with sliding doors. I was in a sort of wide area that lead to it off a corridor. Mom and Dad were there, with my Uncle Pete and I seem to recall something to do with or someone like Bill Jackson. I have a vague recollection of me having some kind of stuffed animal, probably missing Harry Kyle. I was off somewhere important, the atmosphere had a kind of urgency around it and I felt very sure of where I was going and that I wouldn't be back for a l...

What You Miss When You Sleep!

Tonight, as you all know, OYANers convene in Olathe, Kansas. I'VE MET SOME!!!!!! *screech* We have, staying at the Garners, Wayfarer - Lindsey, Hakuna Matata - Erynn, Narniahannah - Hannah. Downstairs in the basement, silence and peace surrounds the sleeping forms of Rachel (Nairam), Grace (Grace), Carolyn, Erynn and Hannah. Um. Not in the corner of the next room on Jane's bed where Lindsey and I are curled up with my computer exploring Google Earth. At nearly 2 am. Lindsey moves over because of cramp in her foot and nearly sits on my eyelash curler. Me: Watch it! Lindsey: Oh, it's an eyelash curler. Me: Yes! It goes squeeze, umph and the eyelashes curl up. Lindsey: I know, I have one! Mine's Mary Kay. It's less sophisticated. Me: What's Mary Kay? Lindsey: You don't know who Mary Kay is...? Me:...nooooo? Lindsey: She's like this big make-up and skin care entrepreneur and she's really famous. Did you know Mary Kay even has her own copyrighted colour o...
