Love Has No Expiration Date - Guest Post

I read a quote from my fav aeroplane brother Miguel Flores once. It struck a chord, and I and I think, others, asked him to write more. As you know, love has a big meaning for me. Been struggling with a few things today and this really struck me again as I re-read it. Without further ado, I give you: Miguel Flores. You are walking down a grocery isle and you pick up a new product on the shelf called “love.” It appears to be a special kind, with the subtext saying that it’s specifically for romantic love. Turning it over to read the label, you see that it has a wide variety of ingredients in it--things like patience, affection, selflessness, and other hard-to-swallow things. You put it in your basket, thinking it might help you with your relationship problems. Little did you realize that you skipped over the disclaimer’s tag, saying that some side effects of “love” might include “pain, hurt, loneliness, suffering, and even hate” if used inappropriately. And, ironically enough...

The Princess and the Love (add-on to the Kiss)

Once upon a time... There was a princess whose parents, at her birth, gave her a special gift. Her first kiss. I am here to tell you another part of the story. The prince and princess did not only swap their kisses on their wedding day. When God had brought them together, they both also held one small gold box each, gifted to them by the Creator Himself. Opened many times in many ways to bring joy to those around them, this was the first time the gold boxes would actually be exchanged, although the Prince and Princess had shown it to each other often before as they grew closer in love and to their God. On that special day, as they exchanged life-long vows, a covenant never to be broken, the Prince and the Princess took their boxes, and gave them one unto the other, then placing them together and opening them as the Sun burst out of the clouds, pouring bright sunshine down in blessing. The gold box was a unique box indeed, for as soon as the rays of the Sun touched it, it ...

Vent

Vents, like most things, can be used for good or ill. They can let out good smells or bad smells. Good thoughts or bad thoughts. Praises or rants or - frustrations. Yet sometimes, the bad product can be turned into good on the way. So here's to hoping the frustration rant turns into a productive praise. If not by posting time, shortly afterwards! As usual, I'm lying back on my bed here looking I'm not doing anything. Which is something that highly annoys me about computers. Or maybe it's just laptops. *pats Lapina* No offence, girl. Sometimes it makes me feel like I'm doing nothing too. Or like I'm wasting time. I mean, I deliberately cut out on things that are time-wasting, like, say, playing Facebook games or watching non-productive films (okay, I do make time for Doctor Who as a de-stresser :P), to take part in more productive things, like chatting to/mentoring people, updating blogs, emails, FB posts, Twitter, website. I'd even like to attempt writing ag...

Singleness Is Willingness (2)

Okay, I'm going crazy here. :D From my impulsive decision to launch S4C tonight, this afternoon, and sending a scrambled email around to the other team members, to throwing together hastily the advertising suggested by my website creator and manager Kyle Johnston , I've been really nervous all day. For advertising, I've blogged, tweeted, FBed, Buzzed, chat statused and posted on the Rebelution Attic thread and on OYAN's RD thread. Four registrants have joined the forum - a warm welcome to Stephy, Lady_Adrienne, Haitch and Butterfly! God moves in mysterious ways - Attic Moderator (also S4C editor and my big sister) Carissa Mann visited the Attic Greenhouse Thread and she hadn't in ages...found my topic, told me where to edit it and then posted it live. It's starting a startlingly lively discussion on OYAN, too! It's also being reshared out across Buzz, Facebook and Twitter. I'm so thrilled! God is moving and blessing it! Praise the Lord! I'd like to ...

Singleness Is Willingness

Hello! I've not been an official Rebelutionary that long, but some of you know me... Recently, the Lord laid on my heart that while there are many websites and books out there preparing girls for marriage, there aren't that many dealing with the single years. Not long ago, I saw a post on Facebook where a girl had a dream of helping children and becoming a missionary, but of course, she "couldn't do that until God gave her a husband." So she was going to sit around and do nothing towards what she believed God had called her, because she didn't think she could do it without a husband. I believe in the goals of serving the family at home before marriage, for young women, but a lot of young women seem to think they can't use passions for God before they marry. I think we can. I've been praying for someone to start a website for young single women, to encourage them in God, to support and encourage regular Bible reading and prayer, to discuss Scriptural pr...

Does the Grey Line Exist?

( WARNING: Some of this content may be unsuitable for younger children. ) You won't ever recover or get to your full potential in Christ as long as you're focused on the grey line. If you’re constantly saying, “I don't see the harm in it; as long as I'm not doing anything OBVIOUSLY WRONG, then it's got to be all right,” it's focusing on getting as close to the line as you can without stepping over, not on trying to get as far away from it as you can to please Christ. I feel like I want to go out down the clubs and spend time with some young people my own age in some tighter clothes and have a bit of alcohol and dance with a guy at a disco and do some necking in a car. My physical side's so achy I can't resist it. And the Bible doesn't say I can't. It says I shouldn't be immodest. Well, I'm not. I'm going to wear clothes that are a bit comfortable that make me look good without being revealing. It says I shouldn't get drunk. All r...

Love's Pain

A conversation with a friend earlier revealed some rather home-hitting truths about the perspective of love's place in life. You know, it's funny....one can be respected and admired by many different people but without a word from the person who means the most to you, it still doesn't take the ache away. And writing that, I realise where the problem lies.... God has to mean the most to me. He has called me His beloved. His wife. His daughter. Treasured. Precious. And so, starving, hurting, I HAVE to go to the only One who can fulfill that need. God also gave us the desire to be wanted by that one special person, yes, and I know He did. But until it's His timing to be fulfilled, He wants us to turn that desire towards Him. He will fill it if we trust Him. Wrap us in His love and ease the pain. And...and He wants us to make Him the centre of our lives. Especially our love lives. Is the desire for a partner wrong, if you're not letting it consume you? I think th...

Relationships Chat

Some of you might find this interesting...here is a chat on relationships I had with one of my close friends. What really amazed me is that there's no way that I could've phrased all that myself. I think God was showing me a few things as He spoke through me. Hope this blesses someone in some way. (11:24:15 PM) Rich: I learned that her mom things a break would be a good thing for the both of us (11:24:33 PM) Rich: That she thinks Danielle is distracting me from my life at college (11:24:46 PM) Sian Jones: ... (11:25:48 PM) Rich: I... (11:25:56 PM) Rich: I can't handle that... (11:26:12 PM) Rich: I'm depressed already because Danielle's gone for a weekend (11:26:22 PM) Rich: If she was gone longer... (11:26:26 PM) Sian Jones: *softly* (11:26:37 PM) Sian Jones: You learn that there are times that you need to be apart. (11:26:45 PM) Rich: But a break? (11:26:49 PM) Rich: *voice cracks* (11:26:50 PM) Sian Jones: Especially if you're going to spend the rest of your l...

Why You Shouldn't Flirt

Copying this from my Buzz. Getting involved with flirtations to get out of pain. 1 - It's extremely selfish. When you get so introverted you're only focusing on getting the benefits of a relationship to hide from pain, it's selfish. But you're too introverted to see it. 2 - It's like dope. A happiness drug. For the momentary highs of it, you keep doing it. 3 - It gets you involved in a whirlwind that you don't have to think about. 4 - It keeps you searching for the one true thing that will stop you searching that you never find. (Only Christ can fulfill). 5 - It teaches you to stay distant from true love (only sourced in God).

A Warning for Modesty

WARNING: If you are easily shocked, sensitive in emotions or generally innocent, it is advised that you may not wish to read the following, as it contains traces of adult content. Thank you. Today's lesson: Dress in a questionable item; get treated like a whore. This isn't too comfortable to write, but I think it may help prove the point about modesty...even if the subject is myself. It certainly proved it to me. As stated in the blog I wrote beneath a few weeks ago, I mostly wear mid-calf length skirts, possessing, however, four knee length skirts (I found two more) and several ankle length. One of my knee length skirts is very pretty. It's a crinkle skirt, black, kind of denimy at the top, with ruffles and flounces on its several panels - ending just below the knee. Apart from its length, it is fairly modest. I've worn it many times before without it having caused acute embarrassment. Yesterday, I decided to go for a walk around the block with my dog, on my own. Norma...

Stumbling

I was...and probably am going to attempt...a blog post called, Dismantling the Princess View today. Last night, I was...once again reminded of my very frail humanity and my great propensity to fall. I've asked God's forgiveness but am very uncertain as to whether I will be able to stop myself next time. In fact, I won't, but the question is whether I will lean on God's grace implicitly or ignore what I know I should do for the sensual pleasure of the moment. (And knowing what's coming up on Thursday, I'm terrified). It's kind'a strange...ever since God brought me back to Him, He's taken on one issue after another. I haven't even dealt with one and there's another staring in my face. Started off with idolatry...I have a major battle with not switching my computer on before spending time with God each day. Then Sunday events and the row with my dad constantly over them...I want to end up surrendering from a Christian point of view, not because ...

A Response

I typed out so long a comment to my sister Samills's post, "My Kind of Modesty" , that I decided to put it into a blog. :) *faint smile* 1 - I understand this type of view too well. 2 - ....how stereotypical of the modern Christian's viewpoint that old ways won't change the world. 3 - How in the world is the world supposed to tell that you're any different if you look, talk and act their fashion? Isn't that called...compromise? Or worse...being a chameleon Christian? W: "So what's your name?" MC: "Ellie." W: "You're pretty cute. You free on Sunday?" MC: "Na, actually I go to church. Free afterwards though." W: "Oh right, you a Christian or something?" MC: "Yeah." *slight pause* MC: "Say, you know the latest song out? I think it really hits the mark." Umm. Okay. Before I'm judged (for being judgmental, pardon me). That might not be exactly the kind of conversation, but I'm...

My Battle with Modesty

WARNING: I'm not sure about the appropriateness of this for guys...so if you think it's bad, stop reading. Okay? I read Jay Lauser’s excellent post on A New Kind of Modesty (which you really, really, really should read, though I won’t post it up seven times like my big sister C’rissie :P) yesterday, and thought I would like to blog my struggle and weakness in that area for...encouragement? General opinion? Not quite sure, although it certainly wasn’t out of self consideration. :P Then I read C’rissie’s post connected with Jay’s, A Rant on Modesty ;), which you can read here . And decided that I felt too embarrassed after reading that, because they were both so good and covered the ground enough, so I wouldn’t. Well, this morning, I changed my mind. (Although after rereading it again just, with all the comments, I feel quite small about posting this...*hits send before I rethink*) It’s not too often that I gain a victory over my worldliness to be happy in the clothes I’m weari...

Fatherhood and Marriage

I have just put down a book by author and pastor Robert Lewis, called Raising a Modern-Day Knight after an hour's perusal. Or flicking through and reading the bits that caught my eye. It's all about talking to fathers and trying to guide them on how to relate to their sons. Showing them how much their sons need them to look up to; how much they need to be there and give love and support and affirmation and identity to their sons. At least, that is what I took from it. Why did I pick it up? Because. I was in one of my own usual moods; I was sitting next to my own dad and listening to some remarks between my parents - and I leaned back in my chair at the table and cast my eyes up at the bookcase next to me. This caught my eye, and I reached up and pulled it down, smiling satirically. Now, this should be interesting to see. What Biblical men really should be like, huh? HAHAHA. Because, as I've mentioned before, I have a pathetic amount of distrust, dislike and disrespect for ...

Flirtation

I was going to call the title "A Touchy Subject" but then I thought, well, maybe it isn't...and for once, used a plain title instead of trying to think up one. Oookay. I have four things I want to blog about. And not very cadet-y, most of them! In marching order, I wish to address the topics of: 1 – Flirting 2 – Redress the singleness issue I mentioned in my last post 3 – Update on my brother, since the people who follow me know all about him 4 – Last but not least, update completely on the Squadron Topic Number One. Okay, weird subject, weird starter with probably a general why-in-the-world-do-you-want-to-address-this spinning around in everyone’s heads. Lads – of which there is only one following me – you’re going to have to excuse me. This is directed at fellow girlies. :) So. Ahem. *clears throat* This is kind of hard to talk about. Because I’m afraid I’m going to sound like an idiot. :D To answer why I want to address this...because I believe it is a major problem fo...
